Welcome to Active Explorers Highbrook. Located in East Tāmaki, we offer quality care and early learning for pēpi, toddlers and preschoolers in a vibrant, multicultural setting where every child is valued and supported.

Kia ora

I'm Janine, the centre manager for Active Explorers Highbrook! What I love most is seeing the incredible growth in children emotionally, physically, and creatively. Early childhood is where empathy, social skills, and self-regulation begin. I cherish nurturing both our children and our amazing team, creating belonging, listening deeply, and helping others grow. I'm a mother and a matriarch, driven to make a difference.

After 20 years in hospitality, I found my true calling in ECE. All paths led here. At Active Explorers Highbrook, I love our diversity, the warmth you feel instantly, and our team’s limitless creativity. Spring and summer waterplay is magical, and every transition we support shapes our confident little learners.

About Active Explorers Highbrook

At Active Explorers Highbrook, we’re all about community. Nestled in the heart of the Highbrook Business Park, we support hardworking whānau by creating a place where tamariki feel safe, connected and cherished. Our centre is known for its warmth, diversity and genuine care.

Our purpose-built spaces are designed to support learning at every stage, from peaceful, nurturing rooms for pēpi to engaging, play-rich environments for older tamariki. Outdoors, kids can explore, move and discover through hands-on play, bikes, carpentry and games.

We cater to all age groups with tailored programmes that reflect each stage of development. Our preschoolers thrive in a school-readiness programme that builds confidence, leadership and a love of learning. No matter their age, every child here is part of our extended whānau.

Our People

Our Team

Our kaiako are passionate, experienced and genuinely love what they do. Many have been with us for over five years, bringing special skills like music, mentoring, gardening and team building. Above all, we value partnership with parents and creating a place where everyone feels they belong.

Our Rooms

Our learning environments are designed to inspire, comfort and spark curiosity. Indoors, tamariki are encouraged to lead their own learning through creative play and exploration. Outdoors, there’s plenty of space to move, imagine and build confidence in a fun and active way.

0–1 years

Nursery

Our nursery is a soft, gentle space where pēpi are nurtured with love and care. It’s a calm environment that helps ease the transition for both baby and parent, offering a warm welcome into the world of early learning.

1-2 years

Infants

This space supports our youngest movers and shakers as they start to explore their world. With sensory play, music and caring routines, our infant room encourages independence while nurturing strong, trusting relationships.

2-3.5 years

Toddlers

Our toddler room is all about curiosity, confidence and connection. With a balance of guided activities and free play, children grow socially and emotionally while learning to express themselves in safe and respectful ways.

3.5 - 6 years

Preschool

In preschool, tamariki are given the tools to become confident, capable learners. Through rich play experiences, leadership opportunities and a strong school readiness programme, they head off to primary school with mana and pride.
