Kia ora
My name is Sue-Marie! Becoming an early childhood teacher was always a clear path for me. I wanted to make a real difference in children’s lives. Every day, I feel incredibly lucky to help young minds grow, explore, and shine. For me, it’s about more than just teaching.
It’s about creating a safe, inspiring space where children can develop holistically. I’ve spent over ten years working with children from diverse backgrounds, and it’s a joy to watch them build confidence, creativity, and connection.
The environment, relationships, and care we provide are the foundation of their journey, and I’m honored to be a part of it.

About Active Explorers Tai Tapu
At Active Explorers Tai Tapu, we focus on fostering strong relationships, emotional development, and independence, helping children thrive in a loving and supportive environment. We embrace te whare tapa whā principles, nurturing tamariki (children) to grow in confidence and curiosity.
Our purpose-built centre features large natural outdoor spaces and well-resourced indoor rooms, ensuring each child feels at home while exploring and learning. Our team integrates local knowledge, creating a rich, community-centered atmosphere that helps children connect with their surroundings.
Life at our centre is vibrant, with age-appropriate activities that promote social, emotional, and cognitive growth. We cater to two age groups: preschoolers (0-3) and prep room learners (3-5). Our curriculum is flexible and child-led, supported by regular excursions and a robust holiday program.
