Nursery Afternoon High Tea
It was an honour to welcome our whanau and parents to our delightful nursery afternoon High Tea. We are excited about making this a regular term event, where we can gather whanau, parent aspirations, connect our whanau with the wider community and create valuable networking opportunities. Our welcoming, warm atmosphere and environment was complimented by a selection of delicate tasteful savouries and the allure of delicious assortment of sweet treats. We truly appreciate everyone’s attendance and contribution to the success of our afternoon High Tea. We look forward to many more wonderful afternoon High Tea gatherings together.

Focus on Kōwhai Room
This month has seen Kōwhai Room focus on their outdoor learning environment, teaching our Pepe to care for and nurture Papatūānuku, and also helping provide our kai that our cook Teresa can use in her cooking. Te rā has been out shining bright a lot this month in Hawke’s Bay and so too are our Pepe in Kōwhai Room. We have been learning about kaitiakitanga (caring for our whenua-land), experiencing natural elements of the earth such as sand and water whilst learning scientific concepts such as weights vs solids. We have been working on our outdoor environment to reflect Papatūānuku and allowing the children to have a part in setting up their own environment. So far soo good! The Kōwhai Tamariki have also been demonstrating Te Wiki o Te Reo Language Week. Our ponga plants are growing beautifully and we created a kai Moana learning experience this morning and we even got to taste homemade rewana bread with chicken vegetable soup - Thanks to our kaimahi Teresa! September has been a fun-filled month of learning and having fun in Kōwhai Room!

The Benefits of Risky Play
It is very natural when hearing the word risk to automatically think of hazards and danger. As parents we want to do all that we can to prevent our children getting hurt so hearing the words risky and play together can feel a bit hazardous in terminology alone...

Our visit to the Maygrove Village!
The preschool tamariki truly enjoy their excursions to Maygrove Village. For Māori Language Week, they had the wonderful opportunity to create feathers for a korowai alongside the residents. This beautiful korowai has been on display in the foyer of Maygrove Village and was gifted to us on October 9, 2024. Our tamariki eagerly anticipate their next visit to see their “new friends,” as they affectionately call the residents. A korowai, or Māori cloak, is adorned with hukahuka (tassels) and feathers. It serves as a mantle of prestige and honor, symbolizing leadership and the responsibilities that come with it within the community. The name "korowai" embodies the respect, authority, and spiritual power associated with leadership in Māori culture.

Springing into October!
September was a vibrant month at Active Explorers St. Lukes, starting with a heartfelt celebration of our amazing dads on Father’s Day. The children showcased their creativity with a delightful performance, and handmade gifts that truly reflected their love and appreciation for their fathers. As we move toward the end of September and welcome October, we’re turning our focus to health and hygiene. In preparation for Global Handwashing Day on October 15, our little ones have been busy practicing essential handwashing techniques. We believe that teaching these habits not only keeps our children healthy but also instills a sense of responsibility for their own well-being. Stay tuned for more exciting activities as we continue to learn and grow together!

Embracing Art
At Little Wonders, we are always celebrating the creativity of our youngest artists. Our toddlers are diving into the world of art with enthusiasm. Art activities are more than just fun. They play a crucial role in early development. Through their creations, our children enhance fine motor skills, learn about colors and textures, and develop their unique sense of self. Each masterpiece is a testament to their growing abilities and the joy they find in exploring new forms of expression. Encouraging creativity from an early age not only boosts confidence but also fosters a lifelong appreciation for the arts. As we watch our learners transform their ideas into vibrant works of art, we’re reminded of the incredible potential within every child. Contact us today to book a tour of our centre, we'd love to show you around!
